Uttar Pradesh is surrounded by Bihar in the East, Madhya Pradesh in the South, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana in the west and Uttaranchal in the north. Nepal touches the northern borders of Uttar Pradesh.
With a population of more than 166 million, it is Indias most populous state. Uttar Pradesh has an area of 236,286 sq km making it the fourth largest state in India. In comparison with European countries, it is half the area of France, three times that of Portugal and a little bigger than England.
