Madhya Pradesh is in the center of the country and its very name means central state in Hindi. It is also called the Heart of India.
Madhya Pradesh was originally the largest state in India until November 1, 2000 when the state of Chhattisgarh was carved out and Rajasthan became the largest state. It borders the states Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The predominant language of the region is Hindi. Marathi is spoken by a substantial number of people. Dialects include Malvi, Nimadi, Bundeli, Bagheli and Avadhi. Tribal languages include Bhilodi (Bhili), Gondi and Kalto (Nahali).
