A cultural center, the Kerala Kalamandalam, the Kerala Sahitya Academy and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy are located here.

Trichur has been a pioneer in the healthcare industry since long, both in the fileds of Allopathy and Ayurveda.Amala Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, the famous cancer hospital was established in 1978 as a nonprofit, charitable institution aimed at treatment and management of Cancer in Central Kerala. Over the years Amala has grown to become one of the major voluntary tertiary level hospitals in India having modern diagnostic, therapeutic and research facilities to combat Cancer and other ailments. This 550 bed hospital complex is unique in having three principal systems of medicine namely Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homeopathy in the same campus. Rice is the staple food of the people. The Nair , Ezhava and such other castes are not generally vegetarians, though some individual members may avoid non-vegetarian food. There is no great difference in the dietary habits of the Christians and Muslims. The routine diet in a family consists of breakfast , lunch, tiffin and supper. Kanji or rice gruel with some vegetable curry and pickles formed the main breakfast until very recently in almost all families, but it has now been replaced by tea, coffee or other beverages taken along with dishes like Dosai , Iddali, Poori, Chappathi and Uppuma.
