Vettukad
About 7 kms from Thiruvananthapuram, The Madre De Deus Church popularly known as the Vettukad Church attracts thousands of devotees from all religions. The annual celebration and feast held here is called the Feast Of Christ, The King.

Madre de Deus Church.is thought to be first established by St. Francis Xavier and later rebuilt in 1934.It has grown into a parish under the Latin Arch Diocese of Thiruvananthpuram.The name is said to have been derived from “way to god” which gradually altered into the local slang “vettukad”.
Thousands of devotees from all over South India gather here to participate in the celebrations.

The Vettukad Festival is one of the most important festivals for Christians living in Kerala. Celebrated on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, the Vettukad Festival is dedicated to the Christ. The festival is observed for eleven days ending with the last Sunday of October. On the tenth day, after the vespers in the church, there is a procession which goes round the parish lasting for about 1 ½ hours. On the final day there will be a solemn high mass, sermon, Eucharistic procession and benediction. The attendance for this feast is well over 50,000 people.
